Aliquot System
The IDS-CLAS 3600 is a high-throughput pre-analytical system engineered to automate and streamline the aliquoting process. Designed for integration into IDS’s Total Laboratory Automation (TLA) system, the IDS-CLAS 3600 eliminates variability and errors from manual handling and helping to boost lab productivity while ensuring precision, safety, and operational continuity.
Optimize Sample Preparation and Benefit from Longer walkaway time
- Automates scanning, accessioning, serum level measurement, decapping, and aliquoting for centrifuged samples
- Accurately determines total available serum volume and aspiration depth before dispensing to minimize waste and prevent cross-contamination
- Dynamically calculates required aliquot volumes based on test orders, preserving primary sample integrity and maximizing downstream efficiency
- Prioritizes STAT samples for expedited handling without disrupting overall throughput
- Dual independent aliquoting areas ensure uninterrupted operation — if one module encounters a fault, the other continues dispensing seamlessly
- Single-sample transport control allows precise handling of each specimen, reaching up to 550 samples/hour throughput

1. Transport Track Connection - Entry Port
The centrifuged primary sample is transported automatically via IDS transport trak into the aliquot system.
2. Primary Tube Loading Area
Primary Samples are loaded from primary tube rack to system track carrier.
2 x IDS 50-tube racks (100 samples) and 2 x IDS 5-tube rack at the primary sample loading area for STAT and error. samples each.
The barcode is read to confirm the arrival and routing. Error samples are loaded into the Primary sample error rack at the outlet section of the system.
3. STAT Sample Loading Area
Urgent samples can be loaded on the dedicated STAT sample rack while the system is operating. The loading arm will pick up the STAT Sample before going over to pick up the routine samples. Barcodes are scanned to confirm receipt and routing.
Samples with barcode error are sorted into an error rack at the inlet.
4. Blood Clot Detection Area
The interface between the serum and the separating agent in the sample is detected and this data is used during aliquoting.
5. Decapping Area

Removes the following tube closures including :
- Rubber
- Plastic
- Screw
Samples with caps that cannot be removed are sent to the error rack in the primary tube unloading area (8).
6. Secondary Aliquot Tube Labeler

The system allows up to 15 aliquot (secondary) tubes per primary tube to be set up.
Labels are automatically printed and applied to the aliquot tubes depending on the number of test ordered and then gets sent to the aliquoting area.
The automation system can be manufactured with the barcode labeler of your choice, allowing customization to fit your specific operational requirements.
Barcode Labelling format type
- NW-7
- ITF
- CODE39
- CODE128
7. Aliquoting Area

IDS-CLAS 3600 has two aliquoting areas adjacent to each other. If one fails, the system automatically redirects the samples to the other aliquot area to ensure continuous operation.
Depending on the primary sample volume, up to 15 aliquot (secondary) tubes can be dispensed per primary tube by the system.

8. Primary Tube Unloading Area

4 x IDS 50-tube racks (200 samples) and 1x IDS 10-tube rack at the primary samples unloading area.
Efficient Sample Management with Customizable Sorting Features
Easy sample management with advanced sorting capabilities. Sorting groups can be customized in increments of at least 5 samples. Personality/ send-out racks can be configured to sort samples based on various criteria, including test type, priority, or destination analyzer.
Technicians can walk away to work on other priority task and are alerted visually if any specific rack or samples requires manual attention from flickering light colours.
9. Secondary (aliquot) Tube Unloading Area

4 x IDS 50-tube racks (200 samples) and 1x IDS 10-tube rack at the aliquot samples unloading area.

10. Transport Track Connection - Exit Port
The system automatically routes samples to the specified analyzer destination via the exit transport track connection.
11. Secondary Tube
Convenient and easy entry point for loading new secondary tubes into the system, while system is still running.
12. Aliquot Tip Supply Station
Continuously load new tips as needed, enhancing efficiency and without stopping the system.
